things that go bump in the night…

I figured out that rides to New Bothwell, after supper, are done for the season.   Last night I got caught in the pitch blackness of HWY 52 on my ride home.  Fortunately I had the safety of that nice shoulder.  I also had my rear and front flashers along and was amazed at how well they worked (I’d never actually ridden in the dark before).  Planet Bike claims they are brightest flashers on the “planet”.  I don’t know about that,  but about 70% of the vehicles that passed me were in the other lane – more respect than I usually get during daylight!  The front flasher (white LED) was powerful enough to light up the town of Mitchell sign about 1/8 of a KM away.  So, while I don’t recommend ever riding in the dark like that on the highway, if you’re gonna get caught, these flashers are great.  You can get the pair at MEC for about $25.

  1. Yeah, it sure gets dark out quick these days. Glad you have those lights, Ron because we don’t want to be scaping you off the highway or the front of a semi!
Its so warm still that we don’t remember what time of the year it actually is! I find if I want to squeeze a ride in that I pretty much have to head out straight after getting home from work (even if I am really hungry…I must really like cycling or there’s no chance it would win out over eating).
