Ha, yeah, that would be so much safer. Just like the next time you decide to cross Lake Superior in the dead of winter on your Mukluk, at least wear two undershirts will ya. 🙂
Yes, about that. Jeff Badger, the organizer of the Polar Bear Run/Fat Bike Race must have listened to you and Shorty. He checked out the course across Lake Winnipeg, and found it was unsafe—no snowmobile trail, unmarked, big ice ridges, ice “bubbles” where people could break through, etc., so he’s modified the course to go on Lake Winnipeg along the shoreline from Winnipeg Beach to Gimli and back. Probably the bikes will do a couple of loops—still about 60 kms.
